Wanderlust Series #1 - Puerto Rico

Hello!

This is the start of an exciting series in which I have named the Wanderlust Series, hoping to post once a month. I am kicking off with the beautiful country of Puerto Rico, located in the Caribbean, in which I was honoured to visit in June 2014 with the Puerto Rico Tourism Company and Air Europa.

I had the chance to see the history, experience the natural wonder of the Bio Bay, see some of the extensive rainforest and visit many wonderful hotels all by travelling around the island in just 5 days! It was jam packed and I would obviously advise to spend a lot longer there but there really is so much to do on the fantastic little island.

Map from mapscitys.tk

Flying time from the UK - 9hrs direct / 14ish indirect
Airlines - direct Norwegian Air / indirect - Air Europa
Currency - US Dollars
Best time to visit -
I went in June and the weather was great, it wasn't cold but we have some cloud and rain in places. Lonely Planet have a comprehensive guide to weather.

We travelled with Air Europa, via Madrid. The airline and it's staff were fantastic and most hospitable. The seats were so comfy and the legroom was plenty, in my opinion. The flight was smooth, the layover was fine and I would most definitely use the airline again.

So, in a series of photographs, explore this fantastic place and add it to your 'go-to' list...

Intercontinental San Juan
A beautiful view from my balcony, the first hotel we stayed in and right in the centre on San Juan. Perfect for cruising holiday makers. Check them out here.

El Capitolio
 Puerto Ricos' Capitol building

La Princesa
The home of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, located at the Paseo La Princesa, in Old San Juan.

Old San Juan
Many of the streets have colourful buildings like this

The Face of the Taíno Cacique Mabodamaca
Located in the town of Isabela, carved into a cliff wall. A sign of respect toward the chieftain Taino who played a big part in early Puerto Rican history.

Palomino Island
Take a short ferry trip across from El Conquistador resort to reach this beautiful island. Complete with it's own beach bars and private loungers. It was pure paradise.

Toroverde Adventure Park
Located in Orocovis, home of 'La Bestia' or The Beast. Which is currently the world's longest single run ziplane. I did that. I screamed.

'La Bestia' Me looking oh-so-beautiful in my helmet and harness!

Castillo San Felipe del Morro
This makes part of the San Juan National Historic Site

Cocktails at Hotel El Convento
Located in Old San Juan, a beautiful luxury hotel in the heart of Puerto Rico.

Koi Pond at the Gran Melia Golf Resort
Another beautiful hotel located Coco Beach, Río Grande just 19 from San Juan. Exclusive Red Level benefits can be booked here and luxury oozes from every corner..visit them here.

Bio Bay Kayak Excursion
Not the best shot, I should have got a 'before' and 'after'. Fantastic trip, we kayaked through the mangroves to the bioluminescent water of Bio Bay. When you swish your hands in the water, it illuminates to a beautiful blue glow. Visit their website to find out more.

Our transportation was provided by Pop Corn Tours
